A television crew from ITV Wales recently came to film at Park in the Past for ITV’s popular prime-time series ‘Coast and Country‘, bringing national attention to the Park’s extraordinary heritage landscape and ambitious future plans. Presenter Rob Shelley and cameraman Mark spent time at the site speaking with founder and Operations Director Paul Harston about our ‘Big Fort Build‘ project, which is shaping the next exciting stage in the Park’s interpretation of its Roman past.
During filming, Cellan Harston explained the daily life of Roman auxiliary soldiers, offering insight into the practical realities of service on the frontier. His remarks helped bring the Roman story to life, showing how these soldiers lived, trained, and helped secure the Empire’s borders.
Grant and Education Development Officer Dr Lorrae Campbell also contributed, speaking about Iron Age culture and heritage at Park in the Past, highlighting the importance of understanding the earlier Celtic communities who lived in the area long before the Roman occupation.
The TV programme explores the latest plans for the reconstructed Roman fort and the giant earth house in the Park’s Prehistoric Realm, both of which are key parts of the site’s developing story. Together, these features create a powerful connection between different eras of history, allowing visitors to experience the landscape as a living record of the past.
The ITV Wales visit marks an important moment for Park in the Past, celebrating the work already achieved while sharing the passion and vision for what is still to come. It promises to introduce a wider audience to the Park’s unique blend of archaeology, education, and storytelling.
The episode is expected to air in mid-June 2026. Check Facebook page for updates.
