Recreating an Ancient Landscape

REVISiTING THE PAST

Imagine you could step back in time to when the Romans descended on North Wales… The smell of wet bracken and oiled steel on a damp autumn morning. The steady jangling of cavalry harnesses, the clonk of wooden shields on armour and officers barking out orders above distant birdsong. The fresh wind sweeping along the wide shallow valley, bringing with it a hint of rain, and of smoke, and of rebellion…

Our exciting ‘time machine’ has transported you back to a lost world, a momentous period of history that changed this island forever.

Experimental Archaeology

RESTORING A LOST WORLD

Park in the Past offers a remarkable leap back in time. Using the latest techniques in experimental archaeology, we are recreating an ancient landscape complete with an authentic reconstructed full-scale size Roman auxiliary fort – the first to be built in Britain for nearly 2,000 years – and prehistoric features such as a huge earth house, standing stones and burial monuments. Visitors can see, touch and enjoy an immersive experience showing how our ancient ancestors lived around 2,000 years ago when the Roman Army first invaded Britain.

But the Park is not just an extraordinary visitor attraction, it’s a world-class centre of excellence and educational ‘laboratory’ too where groundbreaking research pushes the boundaries of knowledge providing insights into how our ancestors lived, how they survived and how they managed their natural world.
