Step into one of China’s most spectacular traditions and discover the exciting world of the Chinese Lion Dance!
Join the talented instructors from China Spirit for a fun, energetic, and hands-on workshop where children will learn the basics of this incredible art form. More than just a dance, the Chinese Lion Dance is a tradition that has been performed for well over a thousand years. Originally used to bring good fortune, drive away evil spirits, and celebrate important occasions, lion dances are now a highlight of festivals and celebrations across the world, especially during Chinese New Year. Combining martial arts, dance, rhythm, teamwork, and colourful costumes, it’s an unforgettable cultural experience.
During this interactive workshop, children will have the opportunity to learn authentic lion dance movements, discover the meaning behind the dance, learn some Mandarin phrases, and work together under the guidance of the experienced instructors from China Spirit. It’s a fantastic way to build confidence, coordination, and teamwork while experiencing one of China’s most iconic cultural traditions.
Workshop Details
- Date: Wednesday 12th August
- Time: 12:00pm–1:00pm (Please arrive 10 mins before the workshop starting time)
- Location: The Earth House, Park in the Past
- Age: Children aged 14 and under
- Places: Strictly limited to 40 children
- Adults: Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Adults are welcome to watch throughout the workshop.
Tickets cost £5 per child and can be booked via the Park in the Past website or purchased in person at the park’s ticket office during normal opening hours.
Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear that you are able to move freely in. Feel free to also bring a bottle of water in case you get thirsty!
