Whether you’re strolling tranquil paths, spotting wildlife, or exploring ancient stories brought to life through immersive experiences and reenactments, Park in the Past offers something special for every age and interest. It’s a place where history breathes, families bond, and imagination flourishes.

With regular events, educational programmes, and hands-on activities, we’re proud to be a living, evolving space for both relaxation and learning.

Opening Hours

Park in the Past is open every weekend throughout the year, welcoming visitors to explore and enjoy the park.

During school term time we’re closed on weekdays to accommodate school trips and private events, but weekends remain open. In the summer, we offer occasional evening openings so guests can enjoy the lake.

Throughout the school holidays, we’re open on additional days. Please check our latest opening times before visiting.

SUpporters’ Card

Pick up your Park in the Past Supporters’ Card and get rewarded every time you visit. Each visit earns a stamp, and once you’ve collected six, your seventh entry is completely free!

We encourage all visitors to use public transport when travelling to our park, helping to reduce congestion and support sustainability. However, if public transport isn’t an option for you, convenient all-day parking is available for a flat fee.

For the safety and enjoyment of all, guests aged 13 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult aged 25 or over. Unfortunately, we’re unable to admit unaccompanied visitors under the age of 18.

Concessions are available for visitors over 65 with a valid ID and blue light card holders.

Prices listed do not include the booking fee when purchasing online via our partner, Beyonk. This fee covers platform and card transaction charges.

Getting Here

Arriving By Car

Take A541, Mold road from Wrexham pass through Caergwrle Village, then once out of the village take first right Fagl Lane. Park in Past is 200m on your left, drive in for parking.

Take A541, Mold road from Mold once the dual carriage way section ends, take next left Fagl Lane. Park in Past is 200m on your left, drive in for parking.

From A55 Expressway, take A550 (junction 35) south towards Hope/Wrexham. Stay on this road until you reach turning for Hope, turn right then take second right (next to Coop) Fagl Lane. Continue on this road until out of the village, approx. 0.7miles and Park in the Past is on right. Drive in for parking.

Getting Here

Arriving By Public Transport

Bus: The nearest bus stop is near St Cynfarch`s Church on Hawarden Road, Hope. The walk will take you along Fagl Lane to the main entrance, which is approximately 0.8 miles.

Train: The nearest train station is Hope station (Bidston Line). Walk from station is approx 0.7 miles.

Arriving on foot

Walk along Fagl Lane and enter Park in the Past via the main gates.

Visitor Centre

We are collaborating with Flintshire Tourism to establish a new visitor centre in the near future.

Visitor Cafe & Shop

Our visitor cafe and shop serves a range of delicious meals and beverages – just perfect before and after your hearty walk, run, lake activities or simply dropping in to chat with friends and staff. We are open every day the Park is open to visitors. Check opening times.

Art Centre

We have a fully-functioning art centre where you can do a range of craft activities with our resident artist. Check when these are running next. The art centre is also bookable for meetings by appointment.

Outdoor Classroom

Thanks to our partners, the Smurfit Westrock Foundation, our brand new classroom will host a series of free drop-in craft sessions for families in August. Check dates and activities here.

Conservation & Nature Wellbeing Centre

Our new earth house is nearing completion and will be the focus for functions, events, performances and eco-heritage-community experiences.

Eco Adventure Play Park

Together with the Smurfit Westrock Foundation, we are pleased to announce we will be launching a new play park for children in the very near future.

Eco Trail

An exciting new eco-trail is being constructed at the Park thanks to our partners the Smurfit Westrock Foundation, and will be available for visitors, schools and groups. Check back for launch details.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Park is a large natural site with undulating gravel or earth tracks and paths, there is a smooth concrete path along the lakeside, though this is interspersed by earth tracks in places. There is a wooden footbridge over the river Alyn which has a gravel & earth track leading to it, and a ramp.

You can find wheelchair accessible toilets in our café and beside the lake and Fort.

We have a large dog friendly café in the main entrance serving a selection of hot & cold drinks, cakes, Ice creams and meals to eat in or take out.

Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic, but we do not allow BBQs, we ask that you take your picnic litter home with you.

During events our Taberna in the Fort is open serving cold drinks and food.

Yes! Entry to our Roman fort is included in your entry ticket – please note we do change our entry ticket prices for some events.

Yes, but your dog must be under control at all times, your dog must have good recall, and you should be able to see where your dog is at all times to ensure his wellbeing, and that of our wildlife and visitors. Please be aware that in certain areas of the Park, your dog must be on a lead due to the presence of wildlife and our livestock in the Fort area.

Yes, your dog is very welcome in our Cafe, we even serve ‘Puppachinos’ and ‘Scoops’ doggy ice cream – please keep your dog on a short lead in the cafe area, and report any ‘ accidents’ to our staff.
